Support

If you wish to test the functionality of your sand monitoring system and/or calibrate it for the highest possible accuracy sand injections are the way to go. ClampOn can supply the equipment and personnel needed for the task.

A sand injection is done using a specially designed sand injector. A known amount of sand is injected into the well flow. The measured amount of sand is then compared to the known amount injected and calibration is done accordingly.

Normally three (3) to five (5) injections are done into each well, typically 400 gram per injection. The type and size of sand is matched to the sand produced. For best results, injections should be done at 2-3 different flow velocities. The ClampOn sand-injector is certified for a working pressure of 10000 PSI (690 bar).

Why

In some cases, the total amount of sand produced over a long period is the only information required.  A well-designed, well-configured and properly maintained ClampOn system can easily give this information.  However, the oil and gas industry is always changing and production is becoming more complex. Reservoirs are deeper and more complicated.  Demand for high recovery is increasing and instrumentation is becoming more and more sophisticated, while access for maintenance is difficult and expensive.  All these factors are leading to the requirement for better sand management.  Close to 50% of all oil and gas wells producing from a sand reservoir have to limit production due to sand production issues.  In many cases, only a minor increase in the accuracy of sand management could lead to a huge increase in production.
Most operators have realized this and are sharpening their focus on sand management. Accurate sand monitoring requires time, experience and continuity. Time is expensive and continuity sometimes difficult in an operation. In many cases, the support and monitoring offered by ClampOn can be a good alternative, saving money and resources for operators.

How

Single Point of Contact
A corner stone of  ClampOn’s sand management and support work is our single point of contact. Regardless of the size of operation, we will assign an engineer to the contract. We recommmend regular meetings between the ClampOn support engineer and the operational environment, further on we involve our engineer deeply in the operators sand management issues. Participation in internal sand management meetings, seminars or training courses is a good way of doing this. All our support engineers are certified to travel offshore, hence meetings offshore and minor field service work can also be done by the same person. Having a single point of contact as a sparring partner concerning sand production issues makes operations easier and more effective.

Day-to-day sand monitoring, planning, and coordination of sand monitoring during well testing, routine maintenance, repairs, modification, upgrades or new builds are all examples of operations where the support engineer will be useful.

Technical Solutions
Providing efficient support is a different matter for each operation. In many cases it has been possible to give ClampOn direct access to all relevant data and systems. In other cases, we depend on manual or automated e-mail correspondence. There even exists a case where the processing equipment for sand monitoring is located with ClampOn and the operator access the data from ClampOn. Putting the necessary infrastructure in place is often what takes most time when setting up a support contract.  However, it is always possible to find a solution that works.

Where

ClampOn is currently operating support contracts with most of the major operators in many countries. Most of the support is done by remote access to data, completed by frequent visits to customers operation centers. Due to lack of infrastructure or security issues, some of the support contracts are based on e-mail or even DHL and CD’s.
